Lucie and Lucy, college classmates, friends and both English majors at Agnes Scott College, went their separate ways after their graduation. The year was 1968.
Now fast forward 35 years to a college reunion where the two Lucie/Lucys met again and began visiting. As they talked, they realized that after so many years, they still had much in common. A renewed and enhanced friendship evolved. Although Lucy lives in Houston, Texas, and Lucie lives in Columbia, S. C. the two Lucie/Lucy’s began to get together when Lucy was visiting her mother, who just had moved to a retirement home in Columbia.
During one visit to Columbia, Lucie showed Lucy some pictures from a recent trip to New York that she had taken to celebrate the 21st birthday of the daughter of her college roommate. This former roommate and Lucie’s closest friend had died of breast cancer when her daughter Rebecca was 16. Lucy grabbed the stack of trip photographs and said, “Give me those pictures! I’m going to put them in a book, and you can write the stories. It will be our mutual gift to Rebecca.”
Rebecca was touched by this memory gift from two of her mother’s classmates, and the two Lucie/Lucys were touched by the experience of creating this gift for her. Both givers and receiver of the memory gift had just experienced the power of making a Family Original.™
Since both authors had received such joy and satisfaction from creating and giving a Family Original™, they embarked on a mission to share their passion for preserving stories, sharing memories, and connecting with the people they love. In May of 2003 Lucie and Lucy began writing their book. which is filled with ideas and inspiration for sharing memories and celebrating significant milestones.
Create Your Own Family Originals evolved with the two Lucie/Lucys working together via email, skype, telephone and monthly trips between their hometowns of Columbia and Houston. A year and a half after the ladies first began writing, they proudly held the first copy of their book in their hands. Both authors continue to create their own family originals™ and share their ideas with eager audiences across the country.
You might have noticed that the authors are both named Lucie/Lucy. Since their names are spelled differently, they and their fans differentiate each one individually by referring to them as either “IE” or “Y.” When someone is interested in talking to both of them, most people just refer to them as “The Two Lucie/Lucys.”
